A Word from the Wine Trail by Jan Landis of Vynecrest

Jan headshotWe at the wineries are entering a very busy season. As you know, April started off warm and springlike and then turned into a cool and sunless May. Bud break in the vineyard was a little later than usual this year, but with the cooler weather, that was okay. We managed to avoid the late spring frosts which hurt other fruit growers and now we are enjoying the warmer weather and sunshine. The vines are growing and we are all busy with new plantings, tying up the older vines after pruning, and regular vineyard maintenance.

Meanwhile in the wineries we are bottling last year’s vintages and gearing up for the spring-summer festival season. We attend many wine festivals and farmers market and plan events and tours at our own wineries as well. One of the highlights of the season is coming up July 23 and 24, our own Lehigh Valley Wine Trail festival at Penn’s Peak in Jim Thorpe.

Wine on the Mountain is unique in that it is comprised just of our AVA Lehigh Valley wineries in the air-conditioned indoor setting of Penn’s Peak with breathtaking views of the Delaware Water Gap and beyond. Advanced tickets are now on sale. It’s a great festival to attend rain or shine.

Be sure to check all of our individual winery websites for upcoming tours, events, and festivals. There’s a lot going on, so come on out and enjoy the wine and the fun!
